Primitive Style Hand Hooked Folk Art
Rug Hooking was a popular early pastime and
old rugs are found showing varying degrees of skill--both in design
and execution. My designs reflect my years as an artist --I tend to
avoid the naive ---I usually have more detail. Traditionally, the
early rug makers designed and hooked to the best of their ability
and if they could have drawn better, I think they would have! I
also lean toward muted colors to give a sense of age to my
pieces--but not to the extent that my rugs look neglected and dirty.
I prefer to think that if they were handed down through the
generations that they were well cared for and cherished--not
surviving as grungy worn scraps of wool.
![]() These are my own
original designs which have been hand hooked by me using my hand
dyed, hand cut wool. If one that you like is shown as sold,
please contact me and I will be happy to hook another using
similar (or your choice of ) colors. All rugs come from my
smoke free, dog free and cat free studio. We do have a bird, but
he isn't interested in the rugs at all! :) Thank you for looking
and I welcome your comments.
